Years of leather testing will make car switch easy for Ciatec

Mexican research and testing organisation Ciatec wants to use the knowledge and techniques it has built up by working for years with the local leather industry to secure new business with the country’s fast growing automotive industry.

Ciatec director, Ricardo Guerra Sánchez, recently told local media that his organisation has asked for a nine-hectare space to be made available to it at a logistics centre in the state of Guanajuato to allow it to set up an airbag-testing laboratory.

He said car manufacturers who have moved into the area approached Ciatec to ask it to provide this service and insisted that the organisation’s experience of working for many years with Guanajuato’s leather and footwear manufacturers would allow it to adapt quickly to working with automotive original equipment manufacturers or their tier-one suppliers, in many cases using the same equipment as it does for leather and shoe testing.
