Rebranding Brown Shoe to launch men’s footwear business
US-based footwear group Brown Shoe Company is to change its name to Caleres, part of a rebranding to reflect its “evolving position in the marketplace”.
The name Caleres is derived from the Latin word ‘calere,’ which translates as ‘to be passionate' or 'to glow'.
The company also announced the launch of a men’s footwear business, Brown Shoe Bootmakers, in 2016. The brand will take an “artisan but rugged approach to men’s shoes”, said the company.
“This is the perfect time to return the Brown name to its roots as a consumer-facing brand,” said CEO Diane Sullivan. “It’s a great opportunity to honour our heritage and organically grow our business, while filling a void in the marketplace.
“Our rebranding initiative, and the launch of our men’s footwear business, help position us as a company with both a proud legacy and an ambitious global vision.”
Caleres will represent brands including Famous Footwear, Naturalizer, Dr Scholl’s, LifeStride, Ryka, Sam Edelman, Franco Sarto, Vince, Via Spiga, Diane von Furstenberg, Fergie Footwear and Carlos Santana.
