Brazil’s national statistics institute IBGE has reported a fall in employment of 4.1% in the South American country, based on a measurement it took in January 2015. Compared to the same month in 2014, employment was down in 17 of the 18 sectors that IBGE includes in its analysis. The exception was the chemicals industry, in which employment was up very slightly, by 0.5%.
In the leather and footwear sector, it found the level of employment to have fallen by 6.8% year on year.
