Bangladesh’s leather industry recorded an increase in export earnings in the first seven months of the current financial year.

Over the seven-month period, which ran from July 2014 to January 2015, tanners and finished product manufacturers helped the leather sector achieve export earnings of more than $670 million, according to official figures from the Export Promotion Bureau. This represents an increase of 2.9% compared to the same months in the previous financial year.

However, tanners themselves saw their export earnings decline over the period by 15.8% to $243.6 million.
