Commentators in Brazil have pointed to lower prices for fed cattle as the main reason for a sharp decline in slaughter numbers in the South American country’s most important cattle-producing state, Mato Grosso.
Figures for February 2015 show that abattoirs in Mato Grosso slaughtered 346,785 head of cattle, a decline compared to January 2015 of more than 26%.
