JBS reports another year of growth
12/03/2015
The Brazilian company’s tanning division, JBS Couros, is the biggest producer of leather in the world. The group does not single out the figures for JBS Couros in its overall results, but reports them as part of the performance of the Latin American part of its business, JBS Mercosul.
For 2014, JBS Mercosul has reported revenues of almost $8.4 billion, this represents an increase of 22.1% on the corresponding figure for the previous year, although earnings before tax were down by 2.8%.
Across the group, JBS processed 18.8 million head of cattle in 2014, very slightly up (0.6%) on the figure for 2013. JBS Couros has priority access to the hides the group’s abattoirs produce, although it has to pay market rates for the raw material. It currently runs 25 tanneries, 19 of them in Brazil.
