Turner buys up associated brands and launches new splitting machine
24/02/2015
In the build-up to Tanning Tech 2015 in Milan, Annonay-based Turner explained that an Italian company had taken over Mercier Frères and the Scimatic machine in 1999 following the liquidation of the Mercier Turner tanning technology group, leaving well known industry figure Didier Chambon, who had left the group in 1998, to relaunch the Turner brand on its own.
Mr Chambon carried out the repurchasing of the Mercier Frères and Scimatic brands at the start of 2015, bringing all three back together again.
In addition, Turner has launched a new splitting machine called, appropriately, Newsplit. The company has said Newsplit is the first splitting machine worldwide to work with brushless motors and to offer digital control through the Windows operating system.
It said the new machine will work well in operations ranging from high-precision dry splitting of sheep and goat skins to bull hides. A pilot project involves a 1500mm unit in an unnamed tannery that had no splitting machine in place before. It has been using a Newsplit machine since the end of 2014 and is now splitting sheepskins to a substance of 0.2mm for stretch leather.
