January figures confirm increase in cattle weight in Argentina

20/02/2015
In keeping with a trend in many major cattle-producing regions, the weight of cattle going to slaughter in Argentina appears to be on the increase.

Argentina’s packers increased their beef production in January by 1.9% compared to the same month in 2014. The total for the month this year was 234,000 tonnes.

However, this figure reflects a higher weight in cattle compared to last year because national slaughter for the month was down slightly, by 0.3%.

Meat industry association Ciccra confirmed that the average carcass weight of Argentinian cattle in January 2015 was 223 kilos; a year earlier the figure was 218 kilos.
