Turkish leathergoods and leather garments manufacturer Desa has said it now operates 50 retail stores in eight different countries under the brand name nineteenseventytwo, chosen because Desa was founded in 1972.

At the end of 2013, the company announced that it had already entered the markets in Italy, Switzerland, the UK, Austria and South Korea, selling high-end bags for women and men, as well as other leathergoods.

Expansion has continued and now chief executive, Melih Celet, has said the company views itself as being able to compete “in the super league” of luxury leathergoods. Mr Celet said Desa has ambitions to reach sales of $300 million within three years.
