Veg-tanned leather has natural attraction for Hestra

Specialist Swedish glove brand Hestra launched ten new styles for autumn-winter 2015-2016 at ISPO in Munich at the start of February, emphasising the importance it places on having chose vegetable-tanned leather for the range.

“The forests, rivers and mountains around Hestra have been our natural inspiration since 1936,” the brand said at the time of the launch. “This is where we find many of our favourite materials, like durable leathers and warm wool. We think that the more natural glove material can be, the better.”

When asked by leatherbiz, the family-run company said it preferred not to reveal the source of the leather it has used in the collection, but repeated the message that its preparation using only natural tanning agents such as tree bark had been the big attraction. It specialises in making gloves for skiing, outdoor recreation and leisure.
