Sequence breaks as cattle slaughter in Brazil falls in Q3

12/12/2014
Official statistics agency, IBGE, has said Brazilian abattoirs slaughtered just over 8.4 million cattle in the course of the third quarter of 2014. This figure represents a decline of 4.5% compared to the same quarter in 2013.

Until this latest quarterly statistic, Brazil had registered an increase in cattle slaughter for 11 successive quarters and the third-quarter figure for 2014 is still higher than the corresponding figure for the same period in years other than 2013.

Important cattle-producing states to register a decline included Mato Grosso (whose abattoirs processed 217,187 fewer head than in the same quarter last year), Rondônia (down by 114,723 head), Mato Grosso do Sul (down by 102,922 head), and Goiás (86,349 head fewer).
