Argentina: new plan creates $6 million boost for shoes and leathergoods in ten weeks

Argentina’s government launched the programme, ‘Ahora 12’ (‘Now 12’), in September and will run it until March 2015. It involves consumers using approved credit cards to buy a list of goods made in Argentina in 12 interest-free instalments from participating retailers and from a special e-commerce site. Transactions have to take place between Thursday and Sunday each week.
Industry minister, Débora Giorgi (pictured), said she was pleased with how the programme had run so far. She said the government had seen a need to boost local manufacturing, trade and jobs and that its response had been a good one. “It shows that if you give people affordable access to credit, you get consumption,” the minister said.
