Kering appointments send a clear message

Appointing Carlo Beretta from Ermenegildo Zegna to be the new chief executive of luxury leathergoods brand Bottega Veneta was only one of several high-profile appointments that parent group, Kering, announced in mid-October.

Kering also said that it was appointing new chief executives at fashion brands Christopher Kane and Brioni, with Sarah Crook and Gianluca Flore taking the roles, respectively.

A comment piece in the Financial Times in the days following the appointments said the news was a clear signal that former Bottega Veneta chief executive, Marco Bizzarri, who was promoted to the position of Kering’s luxury, couture and leathergoods chief executive in May this year, is “unafraid to take the risks necessary to maximise growth”.

It said the three brands involved could be described as the lynchpins of Kering’s growth strategy, characterising Christopher Kane as “a creative new talent and hot young label”, Brioni as a sign of the “ongoing prioritisation” of menswear and Bottega Veneta as the group’s “jewel-in-the crown heritage brand with surging sales”.
