Portuguese leather chemicals group turns to Asia for growth

The group has said it will concentrate on expansion in Asian markets to achieve growth and that its leather chemicals will play a key role in the project.
A diverse group, with extensive interests in wine and olive oil production too, Focor distributes leather chemicals through its Indinor division. Prominent products include syntans, retanning agents and finishing chemicals.
In recent comments to media in Portugal, Focor’s chief executive, Rui Faria, said his company already did substantial business with tanners in India and China and had more recently begun to make inroads in Bangladesh. He said Focor would increase its commercial network in these Asian markets and become more prominent at industry events there.
“European (leather chemicals) products are highly thought of in these markets,” Mr Faria said, “thanks to the guarantees they offer in terms of consistent quality and of compliance with European environmental standards. What our clients manufacture in these markets often comes back to western markets as finished product (such as shoes, jackets, wallets or belts) and that guarantee that they get from sourcing chemical products from a European provider is very important.”
