LVMH says Monogram project is complete

Luxury group LVMH has said a project to “recreate” the famous Louis Vuitton Monogram logo is now complete.

It asked six leading figures in design from around the world to create their personal interpretations of the Louis Vuitton Monogram. The design, which has a motif of the famous LV initials, has been appearing on the brand’s bags since 1896.

At the start of June, LVMH vice-president, Delphine Arnault, and creative director for women’s collections, Nicolas Ghesquière, invited six designers to take part. The six guest Monogram creators were fashion designers Karl Lagerfeld and Rei Kawakubo, footwear designer Christian Louboutin, photographer Cindy Sherman, industrial designer Marc Newson and architect Frank Gehry.

LVMH will now combine all six ideas into a new limited-edition collection of accessories called ‘Icons and Iconoclasts’ that will go on sale at specially selected own-brand boutiques this autumn.

In recent comments to the Financial Times, Ms Arnault confirmed that the project had reached a successful conclusion. The newspaper described the new accessories collection as “playful, if prohibitively expensive”.
