Prada and Italian tanner to get French small skins unit running again

06/10/2014
Reports in French media say luxury group Prada will invest €1 million in a project to resurrect a small skins tanner in central France.

The facility, which ran as Mégisserie Hervy for almost 30 years before closing last year, is in the town of Isle, near Limoges. Prada was an important customer of the business and it will now work with an Italian tanner, Superior, to get production going again.

Santa Croce-based Superior acquired the building and machinery when Mégisserie Hervy closed. Now, with financial backing from Prada, it hopes to be able to fulfil its ambition to make leather there again.

Around 30 local workers, who lost their jobs when Mégisserie Hervy closed its doors, are hopeful of being taken on by the new owners and of having the chance to use their skills again.

Production is scheduled to start again in early 2015.
