Automotive company Honda has named Hiroshi Shimizu as the new head of its business in Mexico.

Honda opened a new car factory in Celaya, in the state of Guanajuato, in February 2014 and state governor, Miguel Márquez, arranged a quick official meeting to welcome Mr Shimizu to the state.

Mr Márquez told the Japanese executive that Guanajuato’s automotive cluster is “the most important in Latin America”.

Honda’s investment in Celaya is estimated to have a value of nearly $1.3 billion. The company aims to produce 200,000 vehicles there per year.
