Usak tanners launch project to address treatment plant odour

25/09/2014
A project is under way at a common effluent treatment plant in the Turkish city of Usak to reduce odour. President of the local tanners’ association, Akif Kuplemez, said in recent comments to local media that the project would cost $1.5 million and would be complete by the end of 2015.

Around 60 tanneries operate in the Usak cluster, specialising in garment nappa, processing a combined total of around 30 million skins per year. Mr Kuplemez welcomed the initiative and said the tanners in Usak want to make continuous improvement in their environmental performance.
