Unlikely public transport surveillance boost for leather

According to the current president of the leather industry’s official representative body to the European Commission, Jonathan Muirhead, this heightened security has delivered an unexpected benefit to the leather industry.
Mr Muirhead, who is also chairman of the Scottish Leather Group, has told leatherbiz that the use of leather in the upholstery of high-end cars and of many aircraft is well documented, but he said many public transport companies are beginning to use leather on the seats of their trains and buses.
They like the benefits leather brings, such as its durability and attractive look, he said, but at one time they were reluctant to use it out of fears over vandalism.
Thanks to closed-circuit television, vandalism is now much rarer on public transport and, as a result, transport companies are now more confident about choosing leather to cover their seats.
