Bad news for the EU in Russia can be good news for Brazil

A cooling in the commercial relationship between Russia and the European Union has delivered a boost to Brazil.

New figures from the South American country’s ministry for industry and overseas commerce show that exports from Brazil to Russia in the first eight months of 2014 were up by 22.4% year on year, reaching $2.4 billion in value.

The ministry said that Brazilian exporters have found that doors in Moscow that remained closed to them until now are suddenly proving easier to open.

In this context, beef exports to Russia rose by 12% year on year in the eight-month period.
