Why Tannery of the Year benefits the leather industry

02/09/2014
The fourth Tannery of the Year final will take place in Shanghai on September 3. Nine tanneries from different parts of the world are in contention for regional and global awards.

World Leather magazine has said consistently that it launched Tannery of the Year in 2009 because, although the leather industry has always had much to be proud of, positive stories about its achievement have been far less frequent than negative ones.

To provide a platform for tanners to share with the outside world details of the ways in which they have helped their workers, their local communities and their countries’ economies, the magazine began to spend time inside tanneries and to publish detailed reports of tanners’ views and practices, including many accounts of good works.

Tannery of the Year participants, almost 40 in total now, have a series of characteristics in common: they are generous, positive, honest, open, pioneering people who are willing to share their knowledge and their visions with the rest of the industry.

We wish all 2014 finalists good luck.
