Per capita consumption of beef in Argentina fell by 3.7% in the first half of 2014 compared to the same period the year before.

Figures for the first six months of this year would put Argentina’s consumption at 59.2 kilos per person per year. The statistics come from national meat industry association CICCRA.

Between January and June 2014, Argentina also exported less beef, with the figures showing a fall of 13.1% compared to the same months in 2013.

Overall, CICCRA has said Argentina’s beef production was down by 3.5% year on year, causing packer companies in Argentina to lay off around 3,000 workers so far this year.
