The Portuguese town of Alcanena, home to most of the country’s tanneries, is to build a new museum dedicated to the leather production industry.

Fernanda Asseiceira, president of the Alcanena Chamber of Commerce, has told local news agencies that the project has won approval and that the museum could open in May 2015.

She said Alcanena had space and the expertise to put together a colleciton of equipment and materials for the museum, but she said work still had to be done to secure the necessary financial support from local and European Union funds.
