Indonesian leather garment brand calls for ban on sheepskin shipments

Indonesian leather garments brand Kalong has complained that its access to local sheepskins is being compromised by Chinese buyers moving in to snap up skins from farms in the Yogyakarta and Surabaya regions.

Founded in Bogor in West Java in 2000, Kalong has said that its usual suppliers of sheepskin have been unable to sell it the material it requires owing to buyers from China taking “bulk” delivery of untreated skins.

In recent comments to Indonesian media, the company called on the government to put a stop to exports of raw sheepskin.
