Leather chemicals firm sets up new joint venture in Asia
Leather chemicals manufacturer Yorchem has set up a new joint venture with a Hong Kong-based firm called Keyfounder. The new arrangement will make it easier for Yorchem to distribute its products to tanneries in Asia.

As well as holding stock of Yorchem products imported from head office in the UK, Keyfounder will supply a small number of Yorchem products made locally by a manufacturing partner in China, East Rich Ever Trading. Samples and full technical support from a team of service managers with a high level of technical training in leather will also be available.

Headed by Alagappan (Samy) Palanisamy, whose ties to Yorchem go back many years, the new joint venture will cover most of the Asia Pacific region. Mr Palanisamy has been working in the leather market in this region, for Earnshaw and Clariant, since 1995.

On announcing the development, Yorchem sales director, Julian Osgood, said: “This strategic investment will enable Yorchem to become much more competitive in the Asia Pacific region. The obvious benefits will be the ability to react much faster to customer requirements and offer on-the-spot technical support rapidly. Manufacturing some of our products in Asia will help with reduced transportation time and costs and we will be able to improve our customer service in the region, while offering the same core values that Yorchem offer from Europe, quality products, at competitive prices, with great service.”

Mr Osgood went on to say that Yorchem is now seeking new agents and distributors in the region.
