Turkey hopes to benefit from Chinese tanning restrictions

Reports from Turkey say that tanners specialising in double face and garment nappa leathers there have begun to talk about receiving a possible boost from tannery closures in China.

Turkish producers believe that orders from China for these specialist leathers will increase considerably in 2015 and 2016 to meet demand created by a decline in China’s output.

“This unusual situation could partly cure the existing problems of the Turkish leather industry,” one industry observer told leatherbiz at the start of July.
