New leather innovation centre for Bolivia

The government of Bolivia has said it will invest more than $600,000 in a new leather innovation centre. The facility, which has attracted funding from the European Union, will open in the city of Cochabamba in October.

Government sources said the new centre’s aim would be to increase levels of technical know-how among Bolivia’s leather sector companies.

Official statistics show that more than 3,400 companies across Bolivia are involved in leather and leather footwear and accessories production. However, almost all of these, 97.8%, are described as micro-businesses with fewer than five people working in each.
