Spain: Footwear strike averted

Footwear unions in the Spanish footwear making region around Elche have called off a strike planned for mid-July.

Employers and unions CCOO and UGT agreed a 1% salary increase at a meeting in Madrid convened by Spain’s footwear industry federation, FICE.

The agreement will be effective from January 1 and workers will receive six months’ payment in arrears, according to local reports.
