Congress highlights sustainable meat
17/06/2014
As its central theme, the congress concentrated on the sustainable development and growth of the global meat industry.
Another focus for the event was the boost in the industrialisation of the meat market in China, with better connections to modern abattoirs for farmers and packers. According to the IMS, China now needs to improve its communications and co-operation with the international meat market.
IMS president, Arturo Llavallol, said in the build-up to the congress that an important development would be a leadership forum to lead the meat industry’s response to an initiative run by the Food and Agricultural Organisation called Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership (LEAP).
“The goal of LEAP is to develop guidelines that address the broad range of environmental impacts relevant to the livestock sector,” Mr Llavallol said.
