A group of 16 goat and sheep farmers in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Paraíba has set up a co-operative to reduce costs, invest in technology and increase the quality of meat and skins their animals produce.

President of the new group, Gerardo Hauszler, told local media recently that all livestock farmers involved in the group will follow a set of rules and conduct it has put in place covering all phases of production. “That’s the way to give the consumer market the guarantees it needs over quality and safety,” he said.
