Workers at the Zenda tannery in Uruguay have ended a protest at the site and have agreed to take part in three-way talks with management and with labour ministry officials to bring an end to a dispute that began at the start of June.

Reports in local media say union members are unhappy that seven members of the workforce of 800 were laid off recently; workers representatives have also expressed some concern about safety at the site following an accident in May, the reports continue.

Owned since this time last year by Brazilian packer and tanning group JBS, Zenda specialises in automotive leather.
