Pakistan: federal budget has highs and lows for leather sector

04/06/2014
Pakistan’s finance minister, Ishaq Dar, has presented the new federal budget for the next fiscal year, July 2014- June 2015. It includes incentive measures for a number of export-focused industries, including leather.

Proposals include reductions in interest on government loans to exporters and in corporation tax rates.

However, manufacturers have responded less positively to a proposal to increase the minimum wage and to keep at 25% the customs duty payable on imported leather chemicals.
