Leather chemicals manufacturer TFL has launched has launched Pellvit LSG, a new soaking agent that the company says will work particularly well with very greasy hides from origins such as Australia, Scotland or Ireland, as well as for the relatively short soaking of American pre-fleshed, fresh and brine-cured hides.

TFL said at the time of the launch that the new product is part of a wider initiative to encourage tanners to us ecological, low-sulfide technology in their processes.

According to the company, Pellvit LSG will be highly effective in preparing hides of this type for unhairing, with high levels of consistency. It is a salt-free product that will improve the accessibility of sulfide to the hair root in such a way that a low-sulfide unhairing process can be applied, without hair-root and fine-hair problems, TFL added.

The product will also allow a reduction in surfactant use in the beamhouse process, while providing consistently low fat numbers, the manufacturer said. At the same time, it will be beneficial for cutting yields as it does not have a negative impact on the integrity of bellies or flanks.

It said at the time of the launch that an ideal partner for Pellvit LSG is its enzyme-based liming agent Erhavit LSU, which supports the unhairing effect of sulfide. The product weakens the epidermis and the pre-keratin of the hair-root, which supports the removal of fine-hair and hair-roots.
