Kering is almost PVC-free

While improvements in its sourcing of leather and raw materials feature prominently in the programme of sustainability targets that luxury group Kering has set itself for 2016 (Kering calls for increased traceability for hides), other materials feature too.

PVC, for example, one of the most widely used types of plastic by brands and manufacturers who try to use synthetics to imitate leather, faces complete eradication by the target date from the supply chains of all Kering brands, including those that seem keen on plastics, such as Stella McCartney.

At the group’s annual general meeting in Paris on May 6, it announced that it has almost hit its zero PVC target already. With two years to spare, Kering said more than 98% of the stock keep units its brands sell are now PVC-free.
