New chief executive takes the reins at Burberry

Luxury brand Burberry has confirmed that its former chief creative officer, Christopher Bailey, took over as its new chief executive on May 1, replacing Angela Ahrendts, who left the company to join Apple on April 30.

This change was in keeping with an announcement Burberry made in October.

Chirstopher Bailey was designer of womenswear at Donna Karan from 1994 until 1996, when he went to Milan to take up the post of senior womenswear designer at Gucci. He joined Burberry exactly 13 years ago, working first as design director, becoming creative director in 2004 and chief creative officer at the end of 2009.
