Leather remains key to Hermès success
29/04/2014
Leathergoods and saddlery, the brand’s signature category, contributed €409.9 million of the total revenues for the first three months of 2014. This represents growth of 10%, which means leather’s share Hermès’s overall business has remained constant at around 43.5%.
Although growth in garments and accessories was higher, up by 14.3% to €214.6 million, it’s worth pointing out that this category includes belts, gloves and shoes and, therefore, also consumes leather.
The company said on announcing the results that it was continuing to grow its leathergoods production capacity. Following the start of production at two new plants in Ise`re and in Charente, in eastern and south-western France respectively, in 2012, it has confirmed two further new production sites in Franche-Comté, also in the east of the country.
