Acque del Chiampo, the company that operates the common effluent treatment plant that serves the Arzignano tanning cluster in northern Italy, has signed up to take part in a carbon footprint reduction programme run by Italy’s ministry for the environment.

The programme’s aim is to help organisations in all sectors reduce their environmental impact and to spread best-practice ideas for sustainable production and consumption.

On announcing the agreement with the ministry, the chief executive of Acque del Chiampo, Alberto Serafin, said: “Sustainability and the green economy are the only drivers for growth that the Italian economy has at the moment. Thanks to this agreement, Acque del Chiampo intends to offer every company in the tanning cluster tools to allow them to grow and compete in global markets.”

Examples he gave of the tools that will become available to tanners included new ways to save energy and water.
