The China Food and Drug Administration has ordered an investigation into gelatine manufacturers after gelatine from ‘industrial waste leather’ was reportedly found in food and drugs.

The China Daily reported the watchdog has ordered inspections of the entire production chain, including raw materials, production facilities and sales operations.

The administration also warned consumers to only buy contact lenses with medical registration certificates.
