Bangladesh leather industry exports on the rise

Bangladesh’s leather industry has reported growth in export values of 39.3% for the first eight months of the current financial year, July 2013 to February 2014, according to data released by the country’s Export Promotion Bureau.

Bangladesh exported leather, footwear and leathergoods worth $847.7 million over the eight-month period, compared to $608.5 million over the same period in the previous financial year.

Exports of leather recorded a year-on-year increase of 44.3% to reach more than $330 million. Leather footwear exports increased in value by 31.9% to reach $376.7 million. Leathergoods exports achieved the biggest growth, increasing by almost 50% to reach $138.1 million.
