Portuguese cod company to build fish-skin tannery
17/03/2014
The company, Soguima, currently processes 22 tonnes of fish per day, but intends to double that volume as part of an expansion plan. Cousins Daniel and Emanuel Guimarães began experimenting with fish skins to see if they could find a way of making fuller use of the raw material they were processing and have now decided to invest in a tannery.
“Fishing is a very seasonal business,” Daniel Guimarães told local media on announcing the developments, “and processing the skins too would help us address that factor. We believe this will allow us to use our resources to the full and add more value.”
