Positive result for Pakistan’s leather industry in first six months

Results from the Pakistani leather industry for the first half of the current financial year (July 2013 to January 2014) show export earnings up by 11.9% to reach $729.8 million.

A breakdown of the figure shows that tanners brought $288.8 million into Pakistan over the six-month period through exports of finished leather, an increase of 14.3% compared to the same period a year ago.

Over the same period, exports of leather footwear brought $62.3 million into the country, an increase of 3.5%, and shipments of leathergoods earned $378.7 million, growth of 11.7%.
