PTA opposes “irrational” sales tax in Pakistan

The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has said a proposed increase in sales tax in the country from 2% to 17% would be “irrational” in the business circumstances in which Pakistan finds itself.

PTA chairman, Sheikh Saqib Saeed Masood, said in a statement that the move would have clear negative consequences for the leather industry because large amounts of the industry’s working capital would be swallowed up by tax. He said it would affect exports too and increase unemployment.
