Bangladesh leather exports surge

According to Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), export earnings from leather, footwear and leathergoods grew by 40% in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, the period from July 2013 to January 2014.

Leather-sector exports brought in export earnings of $751.2 million over the seven-month period in the current financial year, compared to $537.3 million over the same period a year earlier.

Exports of leather increased by 45.4% to reach almost $290 million, while those of footwear were 33.2% higher at $338.8 million. Exports of leathergoods increased by 46.6% in value to reach $123.1 million.
