Bolivian president hints at new tannery

10/02/2014
The president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, has said his cabinet is giving serious consideration to setting up a new state-owned tannery to make leather from the skins of  llamas, alpacas and vicuñas.

Mr Morales said the government was intent on adding as much value as possible to local products, adding that plans and discussions are ongoing.

Oruro, a city 3,700 metres above sea level, would be the most likely location for the new tannery.
