Turkey: Imports of vegetable tannin products down 20%

07/02/2014
By volume, tanners in Turkey imported 20% fewer vegetable tannin products in 2013 than over the previous 12 months.

Figures for 2012 suggest there were imports to Turkey of around 3,500 tonnes of vegetable tannin material, with mimosa the most common, followed by quebracho and chestnut.

However, owing to a 10% fall in sole leather production in 2013, to a decline in the use of vegetable extracts in retannage for shoe upper applications, and to price increases for these materials, the volume dropped last year.
