Indiana Jones' leather jacket maker still reaping rewards

When the props procurers for Hollywood director Steven Spielberg asked Peter Botwright to make a coat, the leather jacket maker didn’t realise he would be still reaping the rewards more than 30 years later.

UK-based Wested Leather makes between 1,000 and 1,500 replicas a year from its factory in Kent after Harrison Ford wore the original in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark.

"Customers are always surprised the jackets are made here, but we stitch in a 'Made in England' label and a Union Jack flag, just so they know," said Mr Botwright, who made the original coat himself.

The family run business has also made leather items for films including Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Saving Private Ryan and Thor 2.
