India’s minister of state for commerce and industry, Dr E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, has said the leather industry lends itself particularly well to exhibitions.

The minister was the guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the 2014 India International Leather Fair in Chennai on January 31. He said the physical attraction of leather was an important part of its appeal and one of the main reasons why it works well at exhibitions.

“People like to see and touch leather before they buy,” he said, “and that’s why the leather industry needs exhibitions like this one.”
