León delegation travels to Europe to promote leather

Senior representatives of the city of León in the Mexican state of Guanajuato travelled to Europe at the end of January to promote its tanning and footwear industries. León claims to be home to around 500 tanneries, although many of them are very small.

The city’s mayoress, Bárbara Botello, led the delegation, which travelled first to Madrid to take part in an international tourism fair. After this, Ms Botello and her colleagues had Paris as the next destination on their itinerary, with the objective being formally to take up responsibility for organising a global footwear event in León.

“We want to bring León’s leather and footwear tradition to the attention of as many people as possible,” Ms Botello said before leaving Mexico.
