Río Frío opened its meat packing plant in May 2013 and is currently slaughtering around 250 head per day. Managing director, Oliverio Solano Cala, has now said he wants to set up a new project to capture as much value as possible to the main by-product of the packing plant, hides.
Mr Solano has told local media the project to set up the tannery will start this year. “We’ve done our projections and work on this will begin soon,” he said. “There is great demand in Colombia for finished leather.”
