Work suspended at Indian leather complex

The Indian Express has reported that the Punjab Pollution Control Board has shut down the leather complex in Jalandhar for 15 days and ordered that repairs to the common effluent treatment plant be carried out.

Effluent was reportedly found in the drainage system after the plant became overloaded.

Tanners complained that the Punjab Effluent Treatment Society should fix the plant and that they should not be punished as they already pay for its maintenance.
